Engineers Create 2025

The Engineers Create Exhibition returned for its fourth edition this year, taking place in a new venue — the Candid Arts Trust in Islington. The larger space allowed for more exhibits than ever, with models, sketches, prototypes, and hands-on displays showcasing the ingenuity and creativity at the heart of engineering.

Open and free to all, the exhibition broke its previous record with over 1,000 visitors exploring the works on show. And in true engineering fashion, we learned as much from the pieces that stayed upright as from the occasional one that didn’t.

This year’s edition marked another exciting step in the exhibition’s growth, setting the stage for even more to come.

Fond Farewells

At the January AGM, members of the Engineering Club gathered to mark the end of an extraordinary era. After an incredible 37 years of service, Andrew Scoones stepped down from his role as Secretary — a position he has held since the Club’s founding in 1987.

In his farewell, Andrew reflected on the Club’s long journey: from its earliest meetings in small groups at the pub, to the thriving programme of talks, visits, and events it offers today. Over nearly four decades, Andrew has been the driving force behind countless gatherings, inviting engineers, innovators, and enthusiasts of all stripes to share knowledge and spark ideas. His enthusiasm, meticulous organisation, and welcoming spirit have shaped the Engineering Club into the lively community it is now.

To honour his remarkable contribution, Andrew was presented with a specially created collage of poster artworks. Drawn from the many, many talks and events he has organised over the years. The collection (which can be reviewed in our Archive ) serves as a colourful reminder of the breadth of topics he championed and the legacy he leaves behind.

Members expressed deep gratitude for his leadership, humour, and the steady hand he brought to every event— as well as his ability to make even the trickiest arrangements look effortless. Though stepping down, Andrew remains a cherished part of the Club’s story, and his impact will continue to be felt for years to come.

Looking ahead, we welcome Floss Willcocks, the new Secretary-elect, who will take on the role from January 2025. Having been guided and mentored by Andrew over the past year, she is excited and well-prepared to carry forward the spirit and standards he set.
